MBTA Transit Surveys, 2008-2009

CTPS conducted these most recent surveys during the period 2008 to 2009 for the purpose of updating information about patterns of transit usage within the Boston metropolitan region. Such data are not easily obtained through any other means.

The data are used to update the regional travel-demand model that is routinely used by the Boston Region MPO; they are also available for use by other entities, public and private, as well as interested individuals.

All existing modes except the Silver Line were surveyed (rapid transit, commuter rail, bus, commuter and ferry boat services); the Silver Lines had been surveyed a few years earlier, as each line opened or was extended. Survey forms tailored to each mode were distributed at boarding points (turnstiles, entry gates or platforms, etc.) between the hours of 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM on selected weekdays. Responders had the choice of filling in the paper forms and mailing them back to the MBTA, or accessing an internet address given at the top of each form and entering their responses directly online.

This application presents summaries of several key survey questions for one database only. Responses are organized by boarding station. The complete results of the surveys for all modes can be found on the MPO web site.
