Rapid Transit (Subway)


Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)
Commonly known as the T, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority provides rapid transit service in Boston, Cambridge, and other urban core communities with four color-coded rail lines: the Red Line, Orange Line, Blue Line, and Green Line. Both the Red and Green lines have multiple branches. The MBTA´s website provides trip-planning information, including fares and schedules, as well as maps and service updates. It also provides information on the MBTA´s automated fare-collection system, often referred to as the CharlieCard system.

Commuter Trains between Boston and Suburban Locations


Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)

Amtrak Downeaster
The Amtrak Downeaster provides intercity and commuter service between Portland, Maine, and Boston´s North Station. Eight intermediate stations are also served in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The service´s website provides information on fares and schedules, as well as features on destinations served. Tickets may also be purchased online. The Downeaster is managed by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority.

Amtrak
Amtrak provides connections to destinations throughout North America from a number of stations in Massachusetts. Its signature service is the Acela Express high-speed rail line connecting Boston´s South Station with New York´s Pennsylvania Station, Philadelphia´s 30th Street Station, Washington´s Union Station, and intermediate points.
