Data Resources – Data
OVERVIEW • DATA • MAP GALLERY • TRAFFIC COUNT MAPPING TIP PROJECT MAPPING • ADDITIONAL RESOURCES The types of data that are available are listed below. To search for specific data, you may contact the MPO staff person listed below, or — if you prefer — you may directly browse, and download from, the linked area of the MPO´s download site. Demographic DataPaul Reim • 617.973.8132 • paul.reim@ctps.org • Browse The MPO staff maintains a large database of U.S. census data from 1980, 1990, and 2000. Some commonly requested tables of data on all Massachusetts cities and towns are available for downloading in Microsoft Excel format, as are more detailed demographic profiles for the 101 communities in the MPO region. Traffic CountsDavid Knudsen • 617.973.7128 • dknudsen@ctps.org The MPO collects traffic counts of many kinds conducted on highways and roads throughout Massachusetts since 1962, principally by MassHighway, or at its behest by regional planning agencies. Average daily traffic data can be retrieved on a self-serve basis using the counts map service. More detailed data may be retrieved by the contact above. Express Highway VolumesTom Lisco • 617.973.7079 • tlisco@ctps.org • Browse Traffic flow diagrams have been developed by the MPO staff for all ramp and mainline sections of the express highways in the metropolitan Boston region. The diagrams shown are hourly traffic volumes from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, as well as for average weekday daily traffic (AWDT). The peak-period volumes are from a recent year; the AWDT volumes are from all of the years that ramp counts have been performed by MassHighway for the given highways. The traffic volumes are available on a highway-by-highway basis in numerical order, with state numbered routes followed by interstate routes. GIS DataKathy Jacob • 617.973.7001 • kathy.jacob@ctps.org The MPO staff can provide GIS data layers such as rail lines, TIP projects, crash locations, and bicycle and pedestrian trails and routes. A data layer can be used as a stand-alone GIS database/map or as a component in creating one. Interactive Mapping ServicesDavid Knudsen • 617.973.7128 • dknudsen@ctps.org The MPO´s interactive mapping services display maps inside Web browsers. The maps are designed to provide information about a particular topic, such as projects in the Transportation Improvement Program, for officials, planners, engineers, and members of the public. MBTA Bus – Typical Daily Boardings by RouteLiz Moore • 617.973.8495 • emoore@ctps.org Estimates of current typical weekday, Saturday, and Sunday boardings are available for each local and express bus route operated by the MBTA. MBTA Rapid Transit – Typical Daily Boardings by StationLiz Moore • 617.973.8495 • emoore@ctps.org Estimates of current typical weekday boardings are available for each station and stop served by the MBTA´s Red, Orange, Blue, and Green lines. MBTA Annual Ridership Estimates by ModeLiz Moore • 617.973.8495 • emoore@ctps.org Estimates of annual ridership from 1980 through the present are available for the following modes of MBTA transit service: heavy rail (Red, Orange, and Blue lines), light rail (Green Line), bus, trackless trolley, and commuter rail. Transit Services by MunicipalityJonathan Belcher • 617.973.7253 • jbelcher@ctps.org Lists of publicly and privately operated transit service, by mode, are available for each of the 101 cities and towns in the MPO region. Model-Based DataScott Peterson • 617.973.7078 • scottp@ctps.org The model set simulates travel on the Eastern Massachusetts transit and highway system. It contains MBTA rail and bus lines, and private express bus carriers. The transit data includes service frequency, routing, travel time, and fares. The highway data include express highways and principle arterial roadways and many minor arterial and local roadways. Results from the model assignments provide detailed information relating to transit ridership demand and traffic on the roadways. Freight-Related InformationAnne McGahan • 617.973.7090 • mcgahan@ctps.org A primer on freight in the MPO region, which includes an inventory of the freight transportation infrastructure and operations. It also includes descriptions of the existing and projected movements of freight in the area and provides a list of stakeholder-identified freight transportation issues that may be within the purview of the MPO.
