Paths to a Sustainable Region, the current Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) of the Boston Region MPO, was adopted by the MPO on September 22, 2011.

Paths to a Sustainable Region:
  • Uses available data to outline the region´s transportation needs for all modes
  • Provides multimodal, intermodal, and operations and management strategies to address the region´s transportation needs
  • Addresses regional priorities such as system preservation, mobility, safety, security, environmental justice, climate change, livability, and operations and management
  • Reflects the MPO´s visions, policies, and goals for the region
  • Will guide development of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which is the implementing document for the LRTP
  • Fosters interagency cooperation and coordination
  • Is financially constrained to available and projected sources of revenue
  • Complies with all applicable environmental requirements for air quality conformity and greenhouse gases
