Transit Service Planner/Analyst


The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking a qualified transit service planner/analyst. This individual will be involved in a variety of assignments, which may include capital investment studies, fare studies, passenger surveys, route-level service planning, suburban mobility studies, and environmental-justice analysis and reporting.

A bachelor’s or higher-level degree in transit/transportation planning, urban/regional planning, or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience are required.

The qualified candidate must also have excellent:
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
  • MS Excel and/or MS Access skills
Project-management and public-process experience is desirable.

Transportation Planner / Travel Modeler


The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking a qualified individual to perform travel modeling. CTPS is conducting new household travel and transit on board surveys in preparation for rebuilding its travel demand model set, and is also exploring the possibility of developing activity-based models. The model set is currently being used to examine a number of transportation projects, as well as significant land use and environmental issues, in eastern Massachusetts. In support of these efforts, CTPS is seeking to fill a travel modeler positions, as described below.
Senior-Level Travel Modeler
This individual will assume a lead role in model development decision-making and task execution. This individual should have several years of successful, thoughtful experience in building and applying traditional trip-based travel models, and should be thoroughly adept at all the steps of the process. In addition, this person must have at least a sound working knowledge of, but preferably experience with, advanced modeling techniques, such as those related to activity-based modeling. Experience with land use allocation models and traffic microsimulation highly desirable.

Specific qualifications for this position are as follows:
  • Master´s degree in urban / regional planning or transportation / civil engineering.
  • At least 10 years of work experience in transportation planning / engineering.
  • Thoroughly skilled at using either EMME or TransCAD.
  • Experience using discrete-choice model estimation software.
  • Experience and proficiency with inferential statistics.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Excellent leadership and other interpersonal skills.

Transportation Planner


The Central Transportation Planning Staff of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization seeks a transportation planner.

The planner will provide professional services to the MPO, with particular focus on freight and on other 3C-related planning activities as called for. Excellent communication skills and technical-analysis capabilities are required. A master´s degree in planning is required and experience preferred.
