Transportation Equity – Transportation Services Available to the Elderly

Home » Plans and Programs » Programs » Transportation Equity

Transportation is a critical need for the region´s elderly residents, particularly those who no longer drive. Most councils on aging, elder affairs offices, and regional transit authorities, and many private nonprofit agencies provide transportation services. To increase public awareness, the MPO has cataloged the transportation services that are available for elders in each of the MPO region’s 101 communities.

In 62 cities and towns in the MPO region, the MBTA’s THE RIDE provides door-to-door service to eligible people who are unable to use general (fixed-route) public transportation all or some of the time because of a physical, cognitive, or mental disability. Communities served by THE RIDE are italicized in the PDF version of the table “Transportation Services for the Elderly in Boston Region MPO Communities.”

Please contact Alicia Wilson, MPO Staff, at 617.973.8008 or awilson@ctps.org to let the MPO know of additional resources in your community.
